A Coralville bank robber has been sentenced to almost six years in prison.

U.S. District Chief Judge John Jarvey issued the sentence to 60-year-old Aquinas Jackson of 20th Avenue Place on Thursday. Jackson was convicted of robbing U.S. Bank on 10th Avenue on the morning of March 4th, 2020. Police say he entered the bank, passed a note claiming to have a gun, and demanded money. He then fled the scene on foot with $4,300 in cash.

Jackson was found by Coralville Police a short time later in the area of 20th Avenue. He was still carrying the cash and the note to the teller.

Jarvey sentenced Jackson to 70 months in prison on a 2nd Degree Robbery charge.

Jackson has a plea hearing set for Friday, April 2nd on unrelated Forgery and 2nd Degree Theft charges. Iowa City Police say on August 2nd, 2019, Jackson deposited two forged checks totaling just under $2,000 at the Green State Credit Union branches on Mormon Trek Boulevard and Muscatine Avenue. Jackson signed the checks on the back and provided his driver’s license number.
