A North Liberty woman was arrested after police say she reneged on her promise to pay back funds that she allegedly stole while working at the Iowa City Walmart.
Police were called to the location on January 26th for employee theft, and met with Asset Protection. The officer was shown a detailed report and video showing 19-year-old Arionne Collins of Savannah Drive taking cash on eight separate occasions from December 2nd through the 22nd of last year. The total amount allegedly stolen was in excess of $4100.
An officer was able to contact Collins on February 18th and when asked for an explanation for the reported thefts, she allegedly said she didn’t remember the incidents. The officer told her there was enough evidence to charge her but gave her the chance to pay the money back in full. Collins allegedly didn’t dispute the amount and said she would repay Walmart by February 26th.
As of March 4th, Collins had not held up her end of the agreement, and a warrant for her arrest was issued. She was arrested and booked at the Johnson County Jail Tuesday night. She has been charged with 2nd degree Theft, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of five years if convicted.
