A weekend overnight altercation involving a ride-share vehicle has led to the arrest of three men who allegedly attacked the driver.

Police say the incident occurred Saturday at around 3 am at the intersection of Clinton and Washington Streets in Iowa City. 18-year-old Jonathan Millard of Waterloo, 19-year old Kaine Millard of Independence, and 20-year-old Brenton Johnson of Clutier Iowa reportedly got into a verbal altercation with a passenger in a ride-share vehicle, and started knocking on the window of the vehicle. The driver got out and told the three to stop. That’s when they reportedly attacked the driver, striking him repeatedly and knocking him to the ground. Jonathan Millard is accused of kicking the driver when he was on the pavement.

The driver suffered injuries serious enough that he had to be taken to a hospital for treatment.

The three men were located walking in the area, and one of them attempted to flee but was stopped. Each of them was observed with bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and had the odor of ingested alcohol.

Jonathan Millard had multiple bar wristbands on, and his ID showed that he was underage. When asked for his fake ID, he allegedly produced a fictitious Missouri license showing him of legal drinking age.

The two Millards and Johnson were each charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Public Intoxication. They could be sentenced to 13 months in jail if convicted.

Jonathan Millard was also charged with possession of a fake ID that would add up to an additional year to his sentence if convicted.
