An Iowa City man was taken into custody for driving while barred after being discovered hiding in bushes at an area storage facility.

Police say the incident occurred Saturday just before 12:30 am at Red Dot Storage on Alyssa Court.  They observed 60-year-old Kelly Jensen of Rapid Creek Road Northeast pull into the facility, park and exit his vehicle to hide in the bushes. When confronted by officers, he claimed to be an employee there.

Later, Jensen reportedly said he saw the squad car and didn’t want to deal with the police. He’s currently about halfway through a four-year barred driving status.  A check of court records shows Jensen being charged with driving while barred several times over the last four years.

If convicted on the charge, Jensen could be sentenced to up to two years in jail.
