Iowa wins 2021 NCAA Wrestling Championship

ST. LOUIS  – Iowa won the 2021 NCAA Wrestling Championships on Saturday at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, capturing the 24th NCAA wrestling title in school history and first since 2010. The Hawkeyes’ title marked the 14th straight year that a Big Ten school has claimed the NCAA Championship.

Iowa amassed 129.0 points, while fellow Big Ten member Penn State came in second with 113.5 points. Four other Big Ten schools also finished among the top 10 — Michigan in fifth place (69.0 points), Minnesota in seventh (64.0), Ohio State in ninth (46.5) and Northwestern in 10th (45.0).

Six Big Ten wrestlers claimed individual titles at the NCAA Championships. Iowa’s Spencer Lee secured his third straight 125-pound championship title. Penn State’s Roman Bravo-Young (133), Nick Lee (141), Carter Starocci (174) and Aaron Brooks (184) each won, marking the third time Cael Sanderson coached the Nittany Lions to four or more championships in one year. Minnesota’s Gable Steveson rounded out the list of Big Ten Champions, claiming the national championship at 285 pounds.
