A majority of Iowans say they don’t want Senator Charles Grassley to seek re-election.

That’s according to the latest Iowa Poll from The Des Moines Register. The poll of 775 adults indicates 55% of Iowans don’t want the 87-year-old Grassley to seek re-election in 2022. Only 28% want to see him run again, with 17% unsure.

Only 50% of Republicans say they want to see Grassley seek another Senate term. 35% are against the idea. Grassley would be 95 years old by the end of another term. He’s served in public office continuously since being elected to the state legislature in 1959.

The Iowa Poll was conducted March 7-10 by Selzer & Company of Des Moines. The margin of error is 3.5%.

The Register says it will release the results of other political survey questions starting on Monday.
