A Coralville man who was reportedly discovered trying to hide over 7 grams of cocaine from police has been arrested.
Back on September 3rd of last year, officers were called to the 100 block of South Scott Boulevard on a report of several shots being fired. Upon arrival, they came upon 35-year-old Marcus Abbott of Holiday Road, who was allegedly lying on the ground, shoving items underneath a vehicle.
Officers detained Abbott and allegedly found that the items he was trying to hide were 7.2 grams of cocaine and a digital scale. A search warrant was obtained, and Abbott’s phone reportedly showed that he was arranging for a drug deal, and his history showed a year’s worth of evidence involving the sale of narcotics. Abbott allegedly admitted that he was partaking in a drug deal.
After lab testing verified the confiscated substance was cocaine, a warrant was issued on January 14th. He was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with a Class C Controlled Substance violation. If convicted, Abbott could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison.
A search of court records shows several run-ins with the law going back over ten years.
