An Iowa City man who claimed his live-in girlfriend assaulted him has been arrested after a witness fingered him as the aggressor.

According to police, 35-year-old Jeremy Brown and the woman became involved in a physical altercation at the Iowa City WalMart Tuesday morning around 11am. Both parties reportedly called 911 but had left the area before police arrived.

The incident continued as the couple traveled to Advance Auto Parts on Highway 6 and police were called to that location. The woman told officers that she was physically attacked by Brown resulting in bruised wrists and neck pain. Brown allegedly told police that the woman was the aggressor and assaulted him for no reason.

A witness at the scene reported Brown as the aggressor, and he allegedly was seen punching the woman about the neck.

Brown was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to one year. A no-contact order was requested between the two parties.
