An Iowa City man was taken into custody early Thursday after being charged with OWI.

40-year-old Isaac Knight was called in because he was passed out in his Volkswagen Jetta in the 700 block of South Gilbert Street just after 1am. Arriving officers reportedly found Knight in the driver seat with the car running, the gear shift in reverse, and his foot on the brake. Upon contact, Knight had constricted pupils, slurred speech, and had difficulty staying awake. He exhibited impairment on field testing, but testing did not register any alcohol in his system.

Knight showed specific indicators of drug impairment and police say he admitted to shooting up heroin about four hours earlier. A drug evaluation was conducted and it was concluded that Knight was under the influence of a narcotic and incapable of safely operating a motor vehicle.

He was taken into custody and charged with his first OWI.
