Allegedly trying to smuggle marijuana into the Johnson County Jail only made matters worse for a North Liberty man arrested for drug possession.
Police stopped a Ford Fusion Tuesday night just before 8:45 near the Dubuque Street/I-80 intersection for a registration violation. They came in contact with 21-year-old Cameron Bailey of Savannah Drive, and reportedly detected the odor of raw marijuana.
A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle allegedly turned up a pill bottle containing 10 tablets that field tested positive for ecstasy. Bailey was also in possession of a scale, baggies and 7 grams of marijuana.
He was arrested and charged with a Controlled Substance violation, marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to affix a drug stamp.
During the booking process, Bailey was asked if he was in possession of any contraband and denied having anything on his person. A subsequent strip search proved otherwise, as he reportedly had concealed a baggie of marijuana on his person.
An additional charge of possession of contraband in a correctional institution was added. If convicted on all counts, Bailey could be sentenced to over 36 years in prison.
