A North Liberty sex offender is back behind bars after he allegedly failed to comply with terms of the state’s sex offender registry process.

42-year-old Waylen Sherod of Sugar Creek Lane was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 1:45 Friday afternoon. Sherod was convicted of Assault With Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse against a 12-year-old girl in Johnson County in 1999. As part of his sentence, Sherod is required to check in in-person with his local sheriff’s office every three months to verify his relevant information. The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation says Sherod failed to appear at scheduled meetings last November and last February.

Sherod is charged with two Sex Offender Verification Violations. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of four years in prison.
