A Mason City man was taken into custody Sunday night after a 911 call about an in-vehicle assault.

Just before 11pm, 911 operators got a call where they could hear loud screaming in the background. The alleged victim informed dispatch that he was in a moving car, and was able to stay on the phone and tell them that they were coming to a stop at a gas station near Dubuque Street and I-80.

Police arrived and spoke to the victim, who said that the two involved were engaged in a verbal altercation during which he attempted to get out of the vehicle at a stop light. 42-year-old Daniel Vickers was accused of shutting the door the victim opened, and grabbing him by his hair to pull him back inside.

Vickers then entered the interstate with the man in the back of the car. They learned that the two had been in a relationship for approximately three years and lived together intimately for about four months last year.

Vickers was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault and False Imprisonment. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to 13 months in jail.
