An Iowa City man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly sending repeated harassing texts to a woman.

According to police, 25-year-old Joshua Snyder of South Dubuque Street sent the woman text messages calling her a whore, a slut, and worse. He also threatened to disseminate nude pictures of her.

The woman requested that Snyder no longer contact her, but he allegedly continued the texts. They included messages that said “I can hurt you,” “you don’t want me to but I can,” and telling her to “kill yourself.” He reportedly sent additional texts saying “I’m gonna drop off some rope,” and “maybe a couple of pill bottles too.”

A warrant for Snyder’s arrest was requested, and he was taken into custody Wednesday. He’s been charged with 2nd degree Harassment, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to one year if convicted.

A no-contact order between Snyder and the woman was requested. A previous no-contact order petition against Snyder was dismissed last week when the protected party did not appear.
