The summer festival season in Iowa City is going to look a little different this year.

After having to cancel the majority of events due to the coronavirus pandemic, Summer of the Arts is tentatively making plans for the upcoming summer. They’ll make the Iowa City Jazz Festival its first major festival of the summer, scheduling it for two days, July 2nd and 3rd. The Iowa City Arts Festival, normally the first festival of the season, has been pushed back to August 13-15. The city’s Soul Festival, now branded as the Soul and Blues Festival, is tentatively scheduled for the end of July.

Other events, like the Friday night Concert Series, Free Movie Series, Music on the Move and the Northside Concert Series, have tentative start dates but the group has not announced any specific details on those events.

Last summer, there were a limited number of movies shown in a “drive-in” format at the Iowa City Airport, and performances for the Friday Night Concert Series were pre-recorded and aired on the group’s Facebook page. Festival seasons like Iowa City’s were cancelled all over the country last year.
