Garza named one of ten finalists for Senior CLASS Award

Luka Garza, who Sunday became Iowa Basketball’s all-time scoring leader, was named one of ten finalists for the Senior CLASS award Monday.

CLASS, an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, focuses on the whole student-athlete, encouraging players to use their platform to make a positive impact in their communities.

Garza is the only Big Ten player on the final list. He’s also on the Wooden Award Late-Season Top 20, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award Top 10, Lute Olson Award Mid-Season Top 35, and Naismith Player of the Year Award watch lists.

The winner of the CLASS award will be announced during the 2021 NCAA Final Four.

Garza was also named Naismith Trophy Player of the Week on Monday for his efforts Sunday and against 21st-ranked Wisconsin on Thursday.

The now 9th ranked Hawkeyes play two games on the national stage this week; against 3rd ranked Michigan Thursday and against now 23rd ranked Wisconsin on Sunday. Thursday’s game will be broadcast on ESPN starting at 6pm, while Sunday’s game will be on CBS starting at 3pm.
