A Swisher man was arrested late Saturday night after police say he drove into the back of a parked semi.

Iowa City Police were called to the Amazon Fulfillment Center on Heinz Road at 11:04pm for a truck wedged underneath a semi, with a person still inside the truck. Responding officers discovered that 44-year-old Cristopher Jaster of Summit Avenue had, in their words, “inexplicably” driven his 2006 Ford F150 into the back of a parked semi.

Police say Jaster showed signs of intoxication, smelled of ingested alcohol, and admitted to drinking. He showed impairment on field sobriety tests, and registered a blood alcohol content of .204% on a Datamatser test.

Jaster was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense.  During processing, Jaster admitted to having a handgun in the center console of the vehicle. A Smith & Wesson pistol was recovered from the truck, and Jaster was additionally charged with Possession of a Dangerous Weapon While Intoxicated.

If convicted on both charges, Jaster faces a maximum of three years in prison.
