A brief police chase on Highway 218 could lead to up to a decade in prison for a Tiffin man.
According to arrest records, 44-year-old David Robinson of Potter Street was driving a 1998 Ford Econoline northbound on Highway 218 just before 8:45 Wednesday night. A Johnson County sheriff’s deputy noticed the van had no license plate, and a traffic stop was attempted near the Melrose Avenue exit.
Robinson allegedly refused to pull over, and continued for about three more miles. He only pulled over when another deputy was able to pull alongside him.
Deputies say Robinson had a strong odor of alcohol and marijuana. He allegedly showed signs of impairment, but refused all field sobriety and breath testing.
Robinson was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 3rd or Subsequent Offense and Eluding. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of ten years in prison.
