An Iowa City man who allegedly assaulted his live-in partner reportedly refused to let her leave the situation when she tried to escape.
Police say 23-year-old Abraham Lemus of Wayne Avenue assaulted the woman at their apartment late Tuesday afternoon. He’s accused of striking her multiple times with a closed fist, causing a split lip and a swollen cheekbone. The woman told authorities that Lemus also pulled her by her hair, and slammed the door as she was trying to escape, preventing her from getting away from the altercation.
The woman reportedly suffered a laceration on her right ring finger due to the alleged assault.
Lemus was taken into custody and charged with Assault causing Injury and False Imprisonment. If convicted on both charges, he could be sentenced to up to 2 years in jail.
A no-contact order was requested between the two parties.
