Coralville man arrested after fighting with police

A Coralville man has been taken into custody after allegedly refusing to leave his Boston Way apartment and fighting with police officers who tried to remove him.

The incident occurred just after 11pm Monday. Officers were called to the apartment of 24-year-old Marko Lawson for his alleged disorderly conduct. Residents in the apartment immediately told arriving officers that Lawson needed to leave because he was acting aggressive towards them, There were children present during the incident.

Officers asked Lawson to step outside, but he reportedly refused and continued to move further into the apartment.

Police put Lawson in restraints, and he allegedly physically resisted them as they attempted to remove him. Although his resistance was peaceful at first, Lawson then began pushing back on officers, torquing his body frantically. He reportedly threw a knee strike at an officer, striking their abdomen. Despite several attempts to calm Lawson down, he still reportedly resisted officers and yelled profanities in the hallway as they took him into custody.

Lawson faces Interference with Official Acts Causing Injury, Disorderly Conduct, and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations charges. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over three years in prison.
