A man convicted for his part in a 2019 beating at an Iowa City Kum & Go now faces new assault charges for an incident Saturday night.

Iowa City Police say 24-year-old Keith Kizart of 2nd Avenue struck a female multiple times at a residence on Marcy Street just after 7pm. He then allegedly picked her up and dropped her multiple times. The incident was witnessed by multiple people, and the woman suffered a bloody lip.

Prior to leaving the residence, Kizart allegedly threatened to “call someone with guns and shoot up the place.” The witnesses believed Kizart had access to firearms and was capable of carrying out the threat.

Police say Kizart ran from arriving officers before being captured. He allegedly admitted to pushing the woman, and that he ran from police.

Kizart is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, 1st Degree Harassment and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over three years in prison.

Kizart was convicted of Assault Causing Bodily Injury after he pistol-whipped another man with a CO2 pistol outside the Mormon Trek Boulevard Kum & Go in October of 2019.
