A rollover accident north of Solon has led to the arrest of a Cedar Rapids man accused of mixing medications before driving.
51-year-old Glenn Varner of Depot Lane SE was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 4:30 Thursday afternoon. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says Varner was the driver of a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan that was involved in a rollover accident near the intersection of Highway 1 and 110th Street just after 5:30pm on October 25th.
Deputies say Varner showed signs of intoxication, made multiple suicidal comments to witnesses, and admitted to taking “benzos”. Blood tests sent to the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation lab confirmed the presence of clonazepam, which is used to treat anxiety, and zolpidem, which is used to treat insomnia.
Varner is charged with Operating While Under the Influence.
