Being allegedly found passed out in a running vehicle at a red light has led to the OWI arrest of an Iowa City man.
According to police reports, 34-year-old Thomas Anderson of Gleason Avenue was called in by a concerned citizen who saw him behind the wheel of a GMC Envoy, passed out at the red light at the intersection of South Dodge and Burlington Streets around 5:45pm Monday.
Officers reportedly observed open containers of alcohol in the truck, and Anderson only woke up when they tried to break his window to get to him. Anderson allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, impaired speech, impaired balance, and smelled of ingested alcohol. When asked how much he’d had to drink, Anderson reportedly replied, “too much.”
After exhibiting measurable impairment on field testing, he submitted to a post-arrest Datamaster test, which showed a blood-alcohol content of .232 percent.
Anderson was charged with his first OWI, a serious misdemeanor.
