An Iowa City man has been arrested after a fight with his girlfriend reportedly turned physical.
Police say the incident occurred just before 9pm Monday at the Bartlelt Road apartment of 19-year-olld George Gailey. He allegedly got into a fight with his live-in girlfriend. Gailey reportedly grabbed the woman by her hair and pulled it several times. He’s also accused of grabbing her throat and squeezing it, which she said caused her pain. Gailey also allegedly punched his girlfriend.
When the woman attempted to contact authorities by calling 911, Gailey reportedly grabbed the phone from her and hung it up.
Gailey was arrested and charged with Assault Impeding Airflow Causing Injury and Obstruction of Emergency Communications. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to over 5 years in prison.
