A Wisconsin man accused of attempted murder after stabbing his girlfriend multiple times has been arrested in Cedar Rapids.

The Gazette reports that 37-year-old Canyon Thixton of Portage had been living under an alias and staying with an un-named woman at a residence in the 3200 block of Kenrich Drive Southwest. Police and US Marshals took Thixton into custody just before 9am Wednesday.

Police were called to a Portage home on September 11th when a 28-year-old woman reported being stabbed. The woman, later identified as Heather Lemon, told the Portage Daily Register that she had been in a relationship with Thixton for just over a year. He’d returned from a bar, reportedly unable to walk straight, at about 2:45am that day, and later stabbed her while she was sleeping.

Lemon told the paper that her 3-year-old daughter witnessed the attack and woke her siblings. After Thixton dropped the knife, she grabbed it, then left the house with her kids, a dog and some belongings.

Police say Thixton fled on a Yamaha motorcycle.

Iowa City police say that they came in contact with Thixton on October 8th at approximately 6:45pm in the area of Mall Drive and Lower Muscatine Road. He allegedly refused to stop his crotch-rocket style cycle after squad car lights were activated. Thixton reportedly stopped briefly to let a passenger off his motorcycle, then took off at a high rate of speed until officers lost sight of him.

When police arrested Thixton Wednesday morning, he was reportedly in possession of a handgun that was stolen from Heather Lemon.

He will be extricated to Wisconsin to face attempted murder charges. He’s been charged with Eluding for the Iowa City incident, a serious misdemeanor; charges in Linn County have yet to be determined.
