An Iowa City man is accused of assaulting a fellow wet shelter resident for talking in his sleep.
Police say 33-year-old David Leeney was at the shelter overnight Tuesday 1:15. Multiple witnesses said Leeney attacked the man while he was talking in his sleep.
Leeney allegedly used closed fists to strike the victim, who reportedly was unable to defend himself. He complained of pain in his head, and had visible blood on the left side of his mouth.
As for Leeney, he reportedly admitted multiple times to attacking and beating up the man.
Leeney was arrested and charged with two counts of assault causing bodily injury, and could be sentenced to up to two years in prison if convicted.
