An Iowa City man arrested for an alleged assault reportedly wanted to get his firearm before being taken away.

57-year-old Norman Coffman of the Walden Place Senior Living complex on Waldon Road allegedly punched the reporting party eight to ten times in the face Monday afternoon around 5:35. The victim’s face reportedly had blood coming from his nose and his lip was swollen.

When officers decided to take Coffman into custody for the incident, he allegedly said he was going to go get his gun, and started walking back to his apartment. Coffman also reportedly resisted arrest while being handcuffed.

He’s been charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on both counts, Coffman could be sentenced to 13 months in jail.
