Iowa City Police say the driver in a suspected drunk driving accident claims the other driver told her to flee the scene.
According to arrest records, 34-year-old Patrice McAfee of Taylor Drive was involved in a two-vehicle hit-and-run accident just before 7:45 Saturday night near the corner of Gilbert and College Streets. Investigators followed a trail of fluid to where McAfee’s 2008 Ford Taurus had stopped. McAfee allegedly told police she was the driver and that the other driver had told her to leave the scene.
Officers say McAfee showed multiple signs of intoxication, admitted to drinking, and showed impairment on field sobriety tests. She registered a blood alcohol content of .153% at the scene and .140% on a later Datamaster test.
McAfee is charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
