An Iowa City man could face decades in prison after allegedly breaking down his ex-girlfriend’s door and assaulting her Friday morning.
Iowa City Police say 28-year-old Joshua Lacy was involved in an altercation with the woman just after 10:30am outside her apartment. The two live in neighboring units at the Eden Apartments on Muscatine Avenue, but police say at one point they co-habituated while dating for several months.
During the altercation, the woman retreated into her apartment and locked the front door. Lacy allegedly broke through the door and attacked the woman, causing a black eye and an injury to her arm.
Damage to the door is estimated at $591.
Lacy, who still carries an Illinois driver’s license, has two previous domestic battery convictions out of Cook County from October of 2009. He’s now charged with 1st Degree Burglary and Domestic Abuse Assault – 3rd or Subsequent Offense. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 30 years in prison.
