An Iowa City man who gave a false out of state ID to an officer who stopped him for speeding has been arrested on weapons charges.
28-year-old Freeman Carter of Whispering Meadow Drive was stopped just before 10:15pm Thursday after police observed him going 40 miles an hour in a 25 mile an hour zone on the 1300 block of Dover Street.
When prompted, Carter allegedly produced an ID from Minnesota identifying him as a totally different person with a birthdate nearly five years later than his own. He reportedly admitted that the ID wasn’t his to police.
A search allegedly found a glass pipe with burnt marijuana residue inside. They also located a .22 caliber pistol in a brown bag on the floor of the passenger seat. A check of records showed that Carter doesn’t have a permit to carry.
He was taken into custody and charged with Carrying Weapons, providing False ID information, and possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted, Carter could be sentenced to over two years in prison.
