Contract negotiations between the Iowa Board of Regents and the union representing workers at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics continued Thursday.
The SEIU Local 199 asked the board for a five percent increase per year over the next two years; the Regents countered yesterday with a 1 percent increase.
Michael Galloway is the chief negotiator for the Regents, and says their offer is more typical compared to the union’s offer made January 13th.UIHC workers want to discuss issues like retention, recruitment and work environment as part of the negotiation, but the new collective bargaining law passed in 2017 stripped many negotiating issues away. By law, the only mandatory negotiation topic is wages. Galloway said the other issues should be brought up with UIHC management.
The union and the board will continue negotiations in the coming weeks but dates have not been formally set.
