An Iowa City man who was convicted of his third or subsequent burglary just five months ago, and who is facing a slew of additional burglary counts, has been charged with rummaging through an unoccupied vehicle last week.
Police say 19-year-old Jeiden Fair of Amber Lane was seen on video Saturday morning at around 11:15 opening the door to an unoccupied Jeep on the 1400 block of Langenberg Avenue and searching through the items within.
The victim showed the video to officers, who identified Fair. When confronted, Fair allegedly admitted to the act when a picture from the video was shown to him.
Fair has a history of alleged car burglaries, most recently in December, where was charged with four counts. He faces other theft and burglary charges from incidents July 9th, 13th and 21st, and August 4th. A case management conference on those incidents is scheduled for Feburary 15th.
Fair was arrested Wednesday for Saturday’s incident; when searched subsequent to the arrest, a small amount of marijuana was found in a coin purse. He faces a Class D motor vehicle burglary charge along with marijuana possession.
If convicted on the totality of Fair’s charges, he could be sentenced to over 25 years in prison.
