The Cedar Rapids Police Department has made an arrest in the shooting death last month of Marisa Doolin.
Working with the Linn County Attorney’s Office, the Police Department presented charges of Involuntary Manslaughter and Tampering with a Witness to 20-year-old Larenzo Laroy Burnett at the Linn County Jail Tuesday morning. Burnett was already in custody on unrelated charges.
Through the ongoing investigation, it was determined that Burnett intentionally pointed a handgun toward Doolin on December 22nd and accidentally discharged the firearm. The gunshot wound caused Doolin’s death. Burnett was arrested for Involuntary Manslaughter, which is a Class D felony.
In addition, in the course of the investigation, Burnett is accused of verbally threatening a witness by telling the witness not to talk to police and told the witness to be ready for whatever is coming to him. The threat to the witness occurred on December 28th at 8:01 p.m. when Burnett made a phone call while incarcerated at the Linn County Jail. Tampering with a Witness is an aggravated misdemeanor.
Burnett remains in custody at the Linn County Jail.
