An Iowa City man has been charged for two separate incidents over the holidays where he reportedly stole alcohol.

Police say 56-year-old Roy Baker was in the Waterfront HyVee at 9:25am December 23rd when he allegedly concealed a bottle of alcohol down the front of his pants and exited the store without paying for it. Baker was confronted by employees and turned his backpack over to them. It reportedly contained several items with Baker’s name on them, but not the bottle.

Staff valued of the stolen liquor at $16.49 and requested that Baker be charged.

On Christmas morning, Baker was allegedly at the Highway 1 Delimart when he was observed putting an alcoholic beverage in his coat and leaving the store. Security footage helped police identify Baker, and he allegedly was found in possession of the beverage when they caught up with him. Baker was reportedly highly intoxicated and a test of his blood-alcohol content showed it at .260 percent.

A warrant was requested, and Baker was charged with 3rd Degree Theft, 5th Degree Theft, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 26 months in prison.
