Iowa City Mayor Bruce Teague has ordered that residents continue to follow the mask mandate that he put in place this past summer to at least the end of May.
In a release Monday, Teague cited the surge in COVID-19 cases nationwide, combined with the area in flu season and people spending more time indoors.
The mandate covers retail stores, grocery stores, pharmacies, hardware stores, public transit, and even outside if social distancing of at least six feet is not possible.
Businesses are being told to refuse service to any patron who refuses to wear a mask, with certain exceptions.
The full order is available at the city’s website, www.icgov.org.
