A Washington Iowa man who reportedly had a rough time negotiating a roundabout was found at three times the legal limit to drive when he was arrested for OWI Friday morning.
According to police, they were dispatched to the area of North Liberty Road and Dubuque Street around 9:30am for a reckless driver. Before they arrived, they were told that the driver lost control of the vehicle and ended up in a snowbank north of the roundabout.
The driver, identified as 60-year-old Michael Petermeier of West Washington Boulevard in Washington, allegedly had an empty bottle of rum in his Chevrolet SLV. Police noted that he had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and smelled of ingested alcohol.
After field testing reportedly showed impairment, a PBT was taken, showing a blood-alcohol content of .248 percent. A post arrest Datamaster test showed a BAC of .240 percent.
Petermeier was charged with first offense OWI, a serious misdemeanor.
