North Liberty police have arrested the man who allegedly damaged the Fire Station on Sunday.

According to a news release from the city, an individual entered the North Liberty Fire Station on West Cherry Street around 12:15am. The man, now dentified as 30-year-old Robert Mlejnek of Park Ridge Drive in Coralville, broke a garage bay door window to get in. He’s then accused of causing about $5000 damage to equipment in the station.

Fire department staff, who were on duty at the station at the time of the entry, initially thought the person was seeking emergency medical attention. When it was reportedly clear that Mlejnek was intoxicated, they requested support from law enforcement. He allegedly stated he had been kicked out of a local bar and had a lot to drink.

The Johnson County Ambulance Service was called to assess and transport him to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Mlejnek was allegedly uncooperative with law enforcement, ambulance personnel, and firemen, kicking at officers.

A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was taken to the Johnson County Jail Wednesday night. He’s been charged with 2nd degree Criminal Mischief, Interference with Official Acts, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all counts, Mlejnek could be sentenced to over five years in prison.
