An Iowa City man in the Johnson County Jail facing charges of domestic assault now faces an additional assault charge stemming from a Monday incident.

According to jail staff, 28-year-old Dakota Washington of East Davenport Street is seen on closed-circuit TV striking another inmate in the head and shoulder with a closed fist. The attack reportedly came without warning and without apparent provocation.

The victim was identified as 61-year-old Russell Shane Weston, who is currently facing charges of First Degree Harassment and Assault with the use or display of a weapon stemming from an incident at Cross Park Place on December 17th. Weston has been charged in over 150 criminal incidents in the past several years. Weston suffered swelling on the side of his head and complained of pain.

Washington, the alleged aggressor, has been charged with assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor. With Voluntary Escape and 2nd offense Domestic Abuse Assault charges already facing Washington, he now faces up to four years in prison if convicted on each count.
