The gravesite of Hawkeye basketball legend Chris Street has been damaged by vandals.

That’s according to Street’s parents. Street’s mother, Patty, told KCCI TV she arrived at her son’s grave in Indianola on Tuesday to find flowers had been thrown, small Christmas trees had been damaged and statues were smashed. Decorations at neighboring graves were untouched.

The Streets have since filed a report with Indianola Police.

Street played basketball for the University of Iowa in the early 1990’s before he was killed in a car accident on January 19th, 1993. Street and his teammates had just finished enjoying a team meal at the Highlander Inn when he pulled out in front of a snowplow on Highway 1. His #40 was later retired by the Hawkeye men’s basketball program.
