A Christmas Eve Zoom call led to domestic assault charges against a Coralville “Scrooge.”

According to arrest reports, 32-year-old Ebenezer Osam Adade of Boston Way and the woman are in an intimate relationship and are the parents of a minor child. Around 11pm, the woman was talking on a Zoom call and made a comment that Osam Adade didn’t agree with, leading to an argument between the two.

Osam Adade allegedly took the woman’s cellphone during the argument, then reportedly assaulted her by pushing her into a wall in the bedroom closet. When she said she was going to call 911 if he touched her again, Osam Adade allegedly told her to do it. As she attempted to contact authorities, Osam Adade allegedly assaulted her again, throwing her on the couch and punching her in the head. She dialed 911, threw the cellphone across the room and shouted the address to the dispatcher.

When police arrived, the woman complained of pain to the left side of her head and on her neck just below her chin. Osam Adade was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury and Obstruction of Emergency Communications. If convicted on the charges, he could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail.
