An Iowa City man who had recently been evicted from his residence has been arrested for trespassing.

According to police, 54-year-old Todd Baggott of Century Street was called in by property management Wednesday afternoon for allegedly being inside the residence that he had recently been evicted from. Officers were able to find Baggott and detain him. While arresting Baggott, he allegedly refused orders to turn around and put his hands behind his back. Police say he kept trying to reach into his pockets and resist arrest until he was ordered down to the ground at taser point.

During the subsequent pat-down, officers reportedly found multiple pipes, a marijuana grinder and two small bags of marijuana on his person. Baggott allegedly admitted all the items were his.

A check of court records indicated that Baggott was wanted on warrants stemming from incidents in October. He’s accused of stealing two checks from a person who was in extended medical care, writing them out for $100 apiece, and cashing them at the Hills Bank branch on Muscatine Avenue on October 8th and 9th. He’s also seen on surveillance video using the victim’s ATM card to withdraw $80 and $160 on October 24th and 26th, respectively.

Baggott has been charged with Trespassing, Interference With Official Acts, possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana possession for the incident this week; for the previous incidents, he faces two counts of Forgery and two counts of Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card. If convicted on all counts, Baggott could be sentenced to over fifteen years in prison. He was released Thursday morning and awaits further court proceedings.
