The second round of vaccines are coming to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that they’re expecting about 1500 doses of the Moderna vaccine this week, possibly as early as today.

Jennifer Brown, UIHC spokeswoman, said that over 1100 front-line employees have already been vaccinated with the Pfizer-BioNTech version as of Monday, with no severe reactions. She added that they’ll begin scheduling the required second round of shots for staff this week to assure the vaccine’s efficacy. There are around 18,000 employees altogether, including off-site locations and clinics.

The vaccine is available for employees only at this time, but officials at the hospital say they would like to be part of the broader vaccination of community members when the time comes.

Statewide, they expect over 138,000 doses to be shipped between the two approved companies. That remains about twenty percent less than originally expected.

The Gazette says the UIHC is treating 28 patients for coronavirus, down from a peak of about 100 last month.
