A fixture of downtown Iowa City is back where it belongs.
The Englert Theatre held a special lighting ceremony Friday night for its newly-restored marquee. The marquee had been down since July for refurbishing.
Friday’s ceremony featured live music from Elizabeth Moen, and was streamed live on the Englert’s Facebook page.
Earlier this month the Iowa City Economic Development Committee approved $70,000 in funding for the Englert, which has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. The Englert had to lay off three full-time and 27 part-time staffers this year. The group hopes to be able to host live events again sometime in 2021.
