An angry convenience store customer faces charges that he threatened a clerk and vandalized the store.

Coralville Police were called to Kum & Go on 1st Avenue just after 2:30 Wednesday morning for a male breaking the register and tearing up the store. The clerk told police the customer in question, 27-year-old Darius Skyles of Bloomington, IL, had accused her of throwing his items into his bag as he was checking out. She said Skyles started speaking aggressively towards her. When the clerk refused to give Skyles her manager’s name and asked him to leave, Skyles allegedly began tearing down the displays by the register, causing them to fall to the floor. She says before he left, he threatened to “beat” her “ass” and spit on her.

Damage to the displays is estimated at between $100 and $200. Skyles later admitted to being at Kum & Go, getting frustrated and pulling down the display.

Skyles is charged with 2nd Degree Harassment and 5th Degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
