An Iowa City drunk driving suspect also faces a charge that he had a weapon in his vehicle at the time he was stopped by police.
Iowa City Police pulled over a Volkswagen Golf being driven by 26-year-old Cody LeClere of J Street just before 8:15 Sunday night near the corner of Lower Muscatine Road and Ash Street. Police say LeClere was westbound on Highland Avenue when an officer noticed him failing to maintain his lane.
A traffic stop was initiated, and LeClere allegedly showed multiple signs of intoxication, admitted to being “too drunk to drive” and showed significant impairment on field sobriety testing. His blood alcohol content was measured at .238% on a portable Breathalyzer test. LeClere allegedly refused Datamaster testing.
Police say LeClere admitted to having a firearm, which was located under the driver’s seat.
LeClere is charged with Operating While Intoxicated and Possession or Carrying of Dangerous Weapons While Intoxicated. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
