An Iowa City woman who allegedly threatened a man with going to the police and having him arrested for sexual assault has instead been charged with extortion.
Police say the incident occurred in the Catlett Residence Hall on April 26th. 20 year-old Vy Dinh of East Market Street is accused of threatening to go to the police and report that she was sexually assaulted by the victim unless he paid her $1000.
Court records indicate that a complaint was filed on November 24th, and an arrest warrant was issued. Dinh was picked up early Monday morning and charged with Extortion, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years. In her initial appearance, Dinh was instructed to have no contact with the alleged victim. She was released from the Johnson County Jail later that morning.
No further court dates have been set.
