An Iowa City man has been taken into custody on a warrant stemming from a mid-November incident.
According to police, 32-year-old Ishmael Carter of Davis Street went to the victim’s Iowa City residence to retrieve items the evening of November 14th. The woman let Carter into her apartment, and during the interaction, Carter allegedly became incensed. She alleges that Carter attacked her, and she suffered scratches to her wrist and chest.
Carter then allegedly punched the woman’s television, destroying it.
A warrant was issued for Carter’s arrest; he was booked at the Johnson County Jail Wednesday morning. He’s been charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, 4th degree Criminal Mischief, and a parole violation on a 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse charge from July 2019.
In that case, Carter allegedly met the victim on Tinder and began a relationship. According to the arrest report, Carter uploaded a video to the internet showing himself and the girl being intimate. The two maintained a relationship for a little over a month, with the victim visiting Carter’s residence several times. During an interview with Carter, he admitted to having sex with the victim once, but believed her to be 20 years old, not 15. The girl reportedly disclosed to a third party that she had sex with Carter three times, two of which were against her will.
The case against Carter ended up with him being convicted of the charge in February of this year, but he was given a ten year suspended sentence, a suspended $1000 fine, and three years probation. The alleged assault, along with missing a scheduled appointment last month and being found with marijuana present during a home visit on November 10th, means that Carter could now serve that suspended sentence.
