The Iowa City Community School District has been granted another two –week waiver from the state to hold classes exclusively online due to COVID-19 positivity rates in Johnson County.

That means that once classes resume November 30th, students will learn from home through December 14th.  They’ve been away from in-class learning since November 16th.

The Iowa City Press Citizen reports that the Iowa Department of Education has received 81 waiver requests from across the state since the beginning of the month, all of which have been granted.

Since the school year started in the middle of August,  a total of 535 students and 133 staff have tested positive, out of the approximately 14,000 students and 2,000 staff in the district.
