The number of University of Iowa students testing positive for COVID-19 has skyrocketed in the last few days.
According to a Friday update on the school’s coronavirus information web site, 50 new COVID-19 cases have been reported among UI students since Wednesday. That’s the largest two-day jump in weeks. The 50 reported cases compare to 34 from Monday to Wednesday, and 19 during the same period last week.
There were ten cases reported among UI employees between Wednesday and Friday. That’s a total of 2,273 student cases and 137 employee cases since the fall semester began.
One residence hall occupant is currently under quarantine and eight are in self-isolation.
Quarantine is used to keep someone who might have been exposed to COVID-19 away from others, while self-isolation is used to separate people infected with the virus from people who are not infected.
