An Iowa City man was taken into custody Wednesday morning after allegedly stealing change from a vehicle.

An officer was dispatched to the 400 block of South Dodge Street at around 10:25 am on reports of a burglary of a vehicle. The victim described the alleged suspect as a black man wearing a light brown hat, and said change was missing from their vehicle.

The officer witnessed a man matching the victim’s description attempting to open another vehicle in the area. He was identified as 21-year-old Terrance Young of the 900 block of East Washington Street, and he allegedly had what the officer described as a lot of change in his pocket. He also reportedly was carrying a CO2-powered BB pistol that he said he bought in Coralville.

Young was arrested and charged with 3rd degree Burglary of a Motor Vehicle and carrying a prohibited toy gun. If convicted on both charges, he could be sentenced to up to 25 months in prison.
