A large brush fire at the Tait Cummins Ball Park Complex in Cedar Rapids is expected to burn for several days as firefighters monitor the area.
Crews were called to the Complex before 2am Thursday and arrived to find a large pile of storm debris trees fully engulfed in fire. Dispatch received several calls about the fire, which had significant flames for a time.
Officials say the fire was on the far West side of the complex and isn’t threatening any ballpark equipment or ball fields.
Crews wet the edges of the fire down to keep it from spreading to the dry grass surrounding it. They note that the pile will be burning and releasing smoke for several days but the Fire Department will continue to monitor the pile. They add that the fire is not threatening any structures of other property.
An investigation into the incident is undetermined at this time.
